Rita Millhench, MA, LPC, SEP

Welcome! As a Licensed Professional Counselor and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner in Michigan, I embrace various methods to help support individual's in their therapeutic process toward wholeness. These methods include "parts" work or Internal Family Systems (IFS), mindfulness techniques, psychodynamic and humanistic therapy. The Somatic Experiencing (SE) techniques are particularly useful for people who struggle with anxiety, depression, developmental or a one time traumatic event. SE training redefines trauma as anything that is overwhelming to the nervous system including: car accidents, falls, surgery, illness, death, loss, birth, natural disasters, sexual assault, war, bullying, pain, etc....

I am also a student of the Pathwork Guide teachings (www.pathwork.org) for over 30 years and am very passionate about personal growth and the evolution of consciousness. I love communing with nature as I love exploring the inner terrain of humans.

Written on Oct 30, 2023 after therapy with Margaret for 2 weeks on issues concerning career difficulties. I was divinely directed to Margaret, as I was looking for an ex-therapist of mine when she and I became matched. I am so grateful! Margaret actually understands me and all I've experienced. She is super supportive ~ not to mention learned. It's like I signed up for classes in this life that I had no previous grounding in. Margaret is the tutor who guides me to the understanding of big life lessons by making them simple and straightforward. In my 35 years of seeking therapy off-and-on, Margaret is by far the best therapist I've worked with. I cannot say enough about how she is helping me to work out severely harmful experiences going back 6 decades.
It is really never too late!

Written on Nov 08, 2022 after therapy with Margaret for 3 weeks on issues concerning stress, anxiety, intimacy-related issues, self esteem, and ADHD.
Margaret is a friendly, warm and welcoming therapist. I had done some Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in the past and thought I understood most of what could be useful to me concerning the nature of my anxiety and depression. However, Margaret's approach has helped me see new connections between my feelings, how they affect my body physically, and what deeper, underlying things might be going on that tie them all together. Her approach considers both the 'physical' and 'mental' side of things, which are so closely intertwined. I feel she has tailored the help she offers to suit my specific needs and personality, and works hard to get to know me so she can do so even more. She is a great listener, compassionate and respectful.

If I could describe her into one word, Wonderful! And it’s still not enough to describe how amazing she is . I can’t Thank her enough for all she has done for me, all the tools she has given me, all the patience she has had with me even when I can be very frustrating and all of the constant empathetic support she has given me. She has elite level expertise and constantly adding to her endless tool box to help get you through life’s hardships without drugs but through the use of the body to translate real unconscious emotions. Without her I don’t know if I would have made any progress in my life . Margaret is the best therapist you will ever have!

Awakening Now
by Danna Faulds

Why wait for your awakening?
Do you value your reasons for staying small
more than the light shining through the open door?
Forgive yourself.
Forgive yourself.
Now is the only time you have to be whole.
Now.
Now is the sole moment that exists to live in the light of your true nature.
Perfection is not a prerequisite for anything but pain.
Perfection is not a prerequisite for anything but pain.
Please, oh please, don't continue to believe
in your stories of deficiency and failure.
This is the day of your awakening."
